What Is Trauma?
Trauma refers to the emotional and psychological response that occurs after experiencing or witnessing an event that is deeply distressing or disturbing. This can include events such as accidents, natural disasters, violence, abuse, or the sudden loss of a loved one. Trauma can affect individuals differently, and its effects may manifest immediately or emerge over time.
You might suspect you have experienced trauma if you frequently relive the event through flashbacks or intrusive thoughts, experience heightened anxiety, or feel detached from yourself or your surroundings. Other signs may include difficulty trusting others, emotional numbness, or trouble forming relationships. Physical symptoms, such as sleep disturbances, fatigue, or chronic pain, can also indicate unresolved trauma.
If you find yourself struggling to cope with these feelings or if they interfere with your daily life, it may be beneficial to seek support from a mental health professional who can help you process your experiences and work towards healing.
